I consider the release of the adaptive controller for the Xbox (XAC) to be a watershed moment in mainstream accessibility. It’s the first time that I’m aware of that a major company has created a piece of hardware designed specifically to make console gaming more accessible for quads and others with loss of hand function. I’ll admit that I was even more interested in the accessible packaging that Microsoft created for the Adaptive Controller. I created my own unboxing video:
Full disclosure, I haven’t really used the controller much at all. I’m primarily a PC gamer and I’ve adapted to that platform over many years of trial and error. I would also need to buy several addons like a joystick and additional buttons to actually use it to play games. It’s possible to use the XAC with a PC by connecting a USB cable, so maybe I will give that a shot one of these days.
