I consider the release of the adaptive controller for the Xbox to be a watershed moment in mainstream accessibility. It’s the first time that I’m aware of that a major company has created a piece of hardware designed specifically to make console gaming more accessible for quads and others with loss of hand function. I’ll admit that I was even more interested in the accessible packaging that Microsoft created for the Adaptive Controller. I created my own unboxing video:
Full disclosure, I haven’t really used the controller much at all. I’m primarily a PC gamer and I’ve adapted to that platform over several years of trial and error. It also became obvious that I would need to buy several addons like a joystick and additional buttons to actually use it in games.
